Catching up with the cultural gap - reflections on a successful intercultural communication
Session by Delphine Ménard - SHIFT 2008
In a world where geographical limits are not a problem anymore, we are faced with different borders Despite lingua francas, common jargon and utmost connectivity, we sometimes miss our targets because we don't use the right words or don't meet the right expectations. Cultural values are to today's world what physical borders were to that of yesterday. Choose the right words, develop the right products or offers, adopt the right tone, those are many difficulties we tend to forget when communicating trhough our social networks.
This presentation aims to give a few examples of the problems we are faced when trying to achieve intercultural collaboration. It will also give a few tips about what we need to consider to make sure we communicate effectively with our customers and partners, by respecting their cultural background.
