Digital Tools as an Extension of Animated Ideas
Session by Geoff Marslett - SHIFT 2008
Animating has always been an effort to find ways of making imagined visuals a reality. At its heart, animation is a trick in which the artist makes the audience believe they are seeing motion and then believe that those moving images have life, or personalities or motivations. Since the late 1800’s pioneers in the industry have been using a myriad of tools to accomplish these feats. Over the last fifteen years digital tools have reshaped the world animation. My presentation will focus on taking a creative outlook towards these digital tools, and using existing technology to keep pushing the boundaries of digital animation, whether it is in content or process. I’ll be using my own feature film, MARS, as an example, and explaining how I developed its unique visual style.
