Capturing "near field" conversations
Self-proposed Session by Riccardo Cambiassi - SHIFT 2008
The idea is to present the background of what it meant to communicate through and with the local environment in the past, see how new technologies like internet, cellphones and ubiquitous computing changed this relationship, and how we could leverage all this to create new ways to engage with the world around us and with other people as well in a mutually beneficial behaviour.
I've written a couple of very simple applications that try to explore this concept, and a few more examples are out there, plus I art is invaluable in helping us catching a glimpse of things to come.
I would also like to present a couple of examples of physical devices that either highlight local information patterns or acts as bridges for conversations, but I guess depends on the nature of the venue...
